Batiks
(using gel glue and acrylics)
I loved teaching this class! The students and I enjoyed using this process to decorate fabric, and there are endless possibilities with this method. I used the lesson plan from the artist woman's blog.
Tips for the project: Use the blue Elmer's gel glue and acrylic paints featured in the website above. It is the only glue that truly works for this process. I used a thin white muslin fabric, and I recommend using that as well. I used extremely hot water to wash the glue off after it soaked for at least 30 minutes to an hour.
Below are examples of my student's work.

Batiks to Celebrate Earth Week
Our school is considered one of a few "Green Schools" in North Carolina. To celebrate Earth Week, I had the second grade make batiks which were inspired by leaves. They did this in the spring, which made the work in even more special because leaves were just starting to bud in the western NC mountains. I borrowed this project from one of my fellow art teachers.
