These projects were developed for our school auction several years ago. The panels were made up of batiks created by each student at our school. The batiked squares/rectangles were sewn onto silk panels by a parent volunteer. Another parent donated the wood frame, which was then stained. The students loved working with hot wax and seeing the dyes crawl along the fabric lines. This was a successful auction project for our school.
- The students taped muslin cloth onto old matte board.
- Then, they drew an original sketch onto the fabric.
- The students applied melted beeswax from an old crock pot along their pencil lines. The wax dried and left white lines underneath.
- After the wax had dried, the students added batik cold water dyes with sponge brushes.
This is a picture of a demonstration I did to show the students how to apply the wax.
