Paper Wind Socks
The picture above was a model for showing my class what a wind sock is and how it functions. I loved the detail on the models, so I encouraged my students to keep adding details when they created their own wind socks.
Materials:
Procedure:
1) We took a nature walk to collect a variety of leaves (all shapes and sizes).
2) The students then used the yardsticks/rulers for drawing horizontal lines or sections on their paper.
3) The students traced a row of leaves in each horizontal line on the paper.
4) Students colored in their leaves with oil pastels. (I encouraged them to use primarily bright colors.)
5) Then, I punched holes in the top and ran a string through so the socks could hang properly.
5) I displayed the work in the main hall of our school.
