My students loved this project, and it was fun to watch the work happen. I used a lesson from Artsy Craftsy Mom: 10 Paul Cezanne Art Projects for Kids to discuss Paul Cezanne life and work. The painting shown above was our inspiration piece, and we discussed several biographical details about Cezanne's life while viewing this painting. We also compared and contrasted several of his other works to reinforce the concept of a still life and impressionism vs. realism. The lesson shown below came from the site Artsy Blevs: One Day Elementary Art Lesson- Still Life Painting, Cezanne. This was a short but perfect project for my students.

Another lesson on Cezanne's came from Art Rocks- Marvelous Cezanne Paintings. This lesson started with drawing a large bowl sitting on a table. The students then filled the bowl in by drawing apples while paying close attention to how the apples overlap one another. For our artwork, we used watercolors for the background, gouache paints and black oil pastels for the apples, and tempera paints to finish the bowl and table.
